The Beheading of Saint John the Baptist
Feast of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist

Our Lord called the Forerunner the greatest of all men that had ever lived.  And so the Holy Church celebrates several feasts connected with his life.  Although not among the twelve great feasts, nevertheless these feasts are considered among the greater feast days of the Church.

The feast of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist reminds us of the results of unbridled licentiousness and its results.  Even though King Herod admired the Baptist, his lust conquered his better judgment.

St. John’s fearless condemnation of sin among the powerful brought about his death.  His life had been one of preparing the way for the Saviour.  He also served as a connection between the Old Testament and the New Testament.

The monastery considers itself very blessed to have a relic from the head of St. John.  May his complete devotion to righteousness and truth be an inspiration for all of us.
