Commemoration of Brother Jose
Come oration of Brother Jose
On October 31, 1997, the guardian of the Montreal Myrrh-streaming Iveron Icon of the Mother of God was brutally murdered in Athens, Greece. Every year on the anniversary, the St. John the Baptist Parish of ROCOR in Washington, DC organizes a pilgrimage to the monastery to have memorial services at his grave.
This year, as usual, the Hawaiian Myrrh-streaming Iveron Icon was brought to the monastery by its guardian, Priest Nektarios. An unusually great number of pilgrims traveled to the monastery to venerate the icon and to commemorate the memory of Brother Jose.
Upon arrival to the monastery, the pilgrims from Washington, joined by other pilgrims, prayed at a pannikhida served at the grave of Brother Jose. The usual monastery services followed. On Sunday, the cathedral of the monastery was filled to overflowing, with the faithful being communed from five chalices.
Later, all were invited to the monastery trapeza, and all other possible venues to accommodate them.
Later, in the afternoon, another pannikhida was served at Brother Jose’s grave, whereupon the Washington and other pilgrims departed for home. All experienced a spiritual uplift through God’s blessing at the services and the grace of the Mother of God’s holy icon.
