Feast of the Archangel Michael and All of the Heavenly Hosts
Feast of the Archangel Michael and All of the Heavenly Hosts

Before God created the physical world, he created the spiritual world.  Especially important for Orthodox Christians are the Bodiless Hosts who are a constant in our spiritual life.  On this day, we celebrate their memory.  In a way, it is the Name’s Day of all of us since we are all given a Guardian Angel at baptism, who assist us along the path to salvation and in all of our needs.

Vladyka Luke headed up the hierarchal Divine Liturgy on the feast after the usual All-Nigh Vigil the evening before, assisted by the monastery clergy.

It was on this feast day that the Ever-memorable Metropolitan Philaret reposed 37 years ago.  We especially prayed for the repose of his soul as well as for the souls of others, such as Protopresbyter Michael Pomazansky, our great professor of Theology, last graduate of the pre-revolutionary Kiev Spiritual Academy, and also those with the name of Michael, and also among the living those who carry this blessed name.
