On November 21, 2017 Metropolitan Hilarion blessed the opening of the new woman’s monastery Convent of the Mother of God, Quick to Hear. Metropolitan Hilarion and Bishop Luke belived there was a need for a woman’s monastery in the Russian tradition using English and with God’s blessing our monastery is now celebrating its 5th year anniversary. Bishop Luke and Mother Nektaria (McElroy) searched for a suitable property for establishing a monastery. After several months of searching a lovely and very picturesque piece of property was found, a five acre plot of land with a house and a very large unfinished two-story garage. It is in the quiet rural hills just outside of Richfield Springs, NY and a 20 minute drive from Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville.
In the main house we set up our house chapel, a large room overlooking the beautiful view of the hills. Our chapel is dedicated the Nevskaya Icon of the Mother of God, Quick to Hear. We were blessed to have Fr Dimitry Kulp build our wonderful iconostasis; the icons were made by Fr Leonid from Holy Trinity Monastery and the new iconostasis was installed in time for our Monastery feast on November 21, 2022. After liturgy Bishop Luke blessed the iconostasis. It was truly a joyous day!
God has been merciful to us in sending us the help we need. The first summer we started our raised bed garden which supplies us with fresh vegetables in the summer. The next project was to renovate the second floor of the garage and build 4 kelias for the sisters. When the upstairs was completed we started work on the downstairs where we now have a fully functioning work kitchen. We also built a woodshop and a room for woodturning and a separate room for oiling, staining or varnishing. We make cutting boards, candlesticks, standing and hanging lampadas, and folding analoys which are available to purchase on our website. The sale of these products help support the convent.
