First Anniversary of Repose of Metropolitan Hilarion in the Monastery
First Anniversary of Repose of Metropolitan Hilarion in the Monastery

On May 16, 2022, the ever-memorable Metropolitan Hilarion of New York and Eastern America, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, from 2008 to 2022, reposed in the Lord.  He was buried behind the monastery cathedral in the brotherhood cemetery.

On May 16, 2023, His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas presided at services to commemorate this day and to pray with the brethren for Vladyka Hilarion.  Vladyka had served in the monastery for several years as a hieromonk, teacher in the seminary and also as a spiritual father, after graduating from the Seminary, before being consecrated vicar bishop of Manhattan in 1984.

Having arrived the day before, Vladyka Nicholas served a pontifical liturgy at 6AM, concelebrated by monastery and seminary clergy and guest clergy from all over.  At 12 noon was the usual monastery lunch, but served with many delicious dishes, provided by the family of Matushka Galina Tkatschew, wife of Archpriest Nicholas Tkatschew.  It was also the 40th day of the repose of Matushka, so both she and Metropolitan Hilarion were commemorated at the lunch and at the pannikhida, which followed at 1PM, at the grave of Vladyka, also served by Metropolitan Nicholas together with the local clergy and also others who had arrived to pray for the repose of the righteous soul of our dear Vladyka Hilarion.  May his memory be eternal!
