On the feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, His Grace Bishop Luke served the Divine Liturgy together with the monastery clergy. After the Great Entrance, Vladyka ordained Deacon Paul Siewers to the priesthood. Fr. Paul serves in the mission in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania and will be serving his 40 days in the monastery.
After the consecration of the Holy Gifts, Vladyka ordained David Parker from Saskatchewan, Canada, to the deaconate according to the request of Archbishop Gabriel. He will remain all week to practice. May the Lord guide and help both in their service to the Holy Church.
At the end of the Liturgy, Vladyka processed with the clergy to the entrance of the church to bless the baskets of fruit brought by the faithful, as is traditional on this feast.
On the following day, Sunday, at the end of the Liturgy, Vladyka and the clergy processed to the sepulcher of Metropolitan Anastassy, second first hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, as it was the 150th anniversary of his birth on the feast, according to the Old Calendar. A litya was served for him as well as Archbishop Vitaly, who also was born 150 years ago, on August 8 (Old Calendar). These two hierarchs were outstanding bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church in our times, especially of the Church Abroad.
