Registration: HTOS Conference on St Sergius of Radonezh

Marking the 700th anniversary of one of the greatest Russian saints, Venerable Sergius of Radonezh (1314-1392), Holy Trinity Orthodox Seminary is pleased to announce a conference entitled The Brightest Luminary of the Russian Land: Life and Legacy of St Sergius of Radonezh.”   The conference program features a diverse array of papers from pastors, scholars, and theology students, addressing various aspects of St Sergius’ historical, ascetic, theological, and liturgical legacy. 

The keynote address, entitled “The Experience of Entering the Life of the Church for a Modern Orthodox Christian,” will be delivered by the Very Reverend Archpriest Pavel Velikanov (Moscow Theological Academy) on Friday, October 10, at 4:30 p.m. in the Seminary Hall.

We encourage all who are interested to come to our conference and to use this opportunity to visit Holy Trinity Monastery at Jordanville – one of the most renowned centers of Orthodox monasticism in North America.  

REGISTRATION

The conference program will be posted on the Seminary and Monastery websites shortly.  The conference is scheduled to open on Friday, October 10, at 10 a.m., with registration starting at 9 a.m. in the Seminary Hall.

We invite those who are interested in attending this conference to send their registration information to the email address of the Conference: st.sergius2014@hts.edu.  Please include your name, title, jurisdiction and parish to which you belong, phone number and/or email address. 

The registration for the Conference is free, including meals and coffee breaks, but NOT INCLUDING accommodations. Those willing to stay at the Monastery Guesthouse are advised to send in their registration information to the address above NO LATER than October 1, 2014, so that the rooms can be prepared in advance.  The usual fee for an overnight stay at the Guesthouse is $20 a night.

OUR KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Fr. Pavel Velikanov graduated from the Moscow Theological Academy in 1998 with a degree of Candidate in Theology.  He was ordained to the holy priesthood in 1997.  He currently teaches at his alma mater, having taught in the past also at Sretenskaya Seminary and St Tikhon’s Orthodox Institute in Moscow. Since 2005 he presented a series of weekly broadcasts on the basics of the Orthodox faith on radio and television, which were recently published as a book. From 2007 he serves as editor-in-chief of the Web portal of theological studies Bogoslov.ru, endorsed by the Russian Orthodox Church.  He is a Member of the Interconciliar Commission of the Moscow Patriarchate.
