From October 25 - 26, 2014, Archpriest Victor Potapov and about 100 parishioners from St. John the Baptist Cathedral made their annual pilgrimage to Holy Trinity Monastery to visit the grave of Jose Muñoz-Cortes who is buried in the Holy Trinity Monastery Cemetery. Joining the pilgrims for their annual pilgrimage were Metropolitan Hilarion, Metropolitan Jonah (OCA), and the myrrh-streaming "Hawaiian" Iveron Icon of the Mother of God.
On Saturday, the pilgrims from Washington DC arrived at Holy Trinity Monastery and served a panihida by the grave of Jose Muñoz-Cortes with the myrhh-streaming icon and Metropolitan Hilarion and Metropolitan Jonah. Following the panihida, the pilgrims gathered in the monastery trapeza to enjoy a meal with the brothers of the monastery and seminarians. After the meal, everyone met at 6:50 pm in the Cathedral to greet the myrrh-streaming "Hawaiian" Iveron Icon of the Mother of God.
On Sunday, Metropolitans Hilarion and Jonah (OCA) celebrated the Heirarchical Liturgy with over 10 priests and four deacons. There were over 200 communicants.
Metropolitan Jonah (OCA) delivered the homily about the 7th Ecumenical Council, which reinstated iconography in the Church. Metropolitan Jonah spoke about how Orthodox Christians should transform themselves to become living icons of Christ.
Following the Liturgy, pilgrims enjoyed lunch in the trapeza and served another panihida at Brother Jose's grave before they traveled back to Washington DC.
We look forward to seeing the DC Cathedral again next year and we thank them for their continued prayers and dedication to Holy Trinity Monastery.
