It is necessary most of all for one who is fasting to curb anger, to accustom himself to meekness and condescension, to have a contrite heart, to repulse impure thoughts and desires, to examine his conscience, to put his mind to the test and to verify what good has been done by us in this or any other week, and which deficiency we have corrected in ourselves in the present week. This is true fasting.

Archimandrite Joasaph, Head of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem, Reposes In the Lord
Archimandrite Joasaph peacefully reposed early this morning at a
hospital in Boston after a period of a few months struggling with
cancer. He endured this cross with patience and with hope and trust in
God's will, preparing his soul for the true and blessed eternal life.

On this day the Church commemorates the memory of the venerable Savvas the
Sanctified of Jerusalem. Through the prayers of the Venerable Savvas
and all the saints may the Lord grant rest with the righteous to the
soul of His servant  Archimandrite Joasaph. Memory Eternal!

The Funeral will be held at Holy Trinity Monastery on Monday December 21 at 1PM.  Lunch will be at 12 noon.
